The temple priest Pandit Jitendra Sharma told that in Dwapar Yug, on the day of Annakoot, Devraj Indra was worshipped and 56 bhogs were offered. But the people of Brij stopped that practice on the advice of Lord Krishna. Then Devraj Indra got angry and rained heavily in Brij Mandal. To save the people of Brij from this rain, Lord Krishna humiliated Indra by lifting Govardhan mountain on his little finger for seven days. Lord's makeup and Chhappan bhog are the center of attraction

For seven days, all the villagers along with the gopas and gopikas lived happily under the shade of Govardhan mountain. At the same time, Brahma Ji told Indra that Lord Vishnu has taken incarnation on earth in the form of Shri Krishna. Therefore, it is not right to have enmity with him. Knowing this, Indra apologized to Lord Krishna. Lord Krishna put down Govardhan mountain on the seventh day. And ordered all Brij residents to worship Govardhan and celebrate Annakoot festival. Since then, this festival is celebrated in the form of Annakoot in the whole of India.
