"Bhartiya Kisan Sangh demanded ban on GM seeds from MP Alok Sharma"
Berasia Bhopal Bharatiya Kisan Sangh delegation led by division minister Ved Prakash Dangi and district president Girwar Singh Rajput met MP Alok Sharma and made him aware of the damage caused by BT seeds of cotton and mustard. The delegation included district co-minister Rajendra Singh Thakur, Bhopal city president Ashwani Mehar, district publicity chief Vinay Singh Patel, Lokesh Meena, tehsil president Akhilesh Meena, Gajendra Singh, Pushpendra, Akash Rajput executive members.
Farmers' union members said that since 2002, foreign companies have brought BT seeds into India through the back door. Genes of organisms have been inserted in these seeds, due to which the consumption of non-vegetarian oil has increased in the country, whereas non-vegetarian oil is banned. He also said that no test has been done on the impact of GM seeds on the environment in India, due to which indigenous seeds are becoming extinct and farmers are becoming dependent on foreign companies.
Farmers' union said that BT The seed testing has failed, yet foreign companies are doing new experiments. On this issue, farmer organizations took refuge in the court, after which a two-member bench of the High Court directed the Central Government to make a policy in four months. Despite three months passing, the Central Government has not taken any step on this.
The delegation requested MP Alok Sharma to raise this issue in the upcoming Lok Sabha session.
